D'UTAMA INSTALLATION NIGHT

Dear esteemed Toastmasters members & friends,

Every year D'Utama Toastmasters (DUTM) Club, a non-profit organization in public speaking; will organize an installation night and it is one of the grand events for each and every Toastmasters Clubs.

Why? Because we would see and witness the incoming Executive Committees (EXCO) to be installed or elected as our future leaders or “little Club Ministers!” They will lead the Club’s future to greater heights – by encouraging members to do more productive public speaking and discover the leadership within them. And so DUTM’s members will look upon the incoming EXCO as our role models – to guide us.

Apart from the main highlight, we do have other interesting, exciting, and fun activities – they are ready to entertain you throughout the night! By the way, the theme for the Installation Night is “Spring & Summer Collection 2009.”

The itineraries are like:

1) Believe It or Not!?
We are going to have our tall tale contest – to tell an exaggerated and overwhelming “white lies” or make believed stories. Each contestant is given 5 minutes to deliver the speech. So you may now start to prepare your tall tale story – the most outrageous, funniest & unbelievable story! Oh yeah, non-members of Toastmasters are also welcome to tell some lies too – and we are not lying this time!

We would expect maximum of eight (8) contestants and minimum of five (5) contestants. Please register your name to yours truly soonest as possible.

2) Battles of the Wits
The usual statement we know and hear quite often, “He says and she says and they said….” If you have something and anything to say, then this is the best time and opportunity to vent your frustrations or express your opinions or give hilarious statements as well. In short, you are either for or against the given statement. So do you want to outwit, outplay and outlast your opponent parties? If yes, then get ready to debate in the “friendly” battles of the wits; by registering your name with yours truly and guests are also welcomed to join in the fun!

3) All work and no play make Jack a dull boy!
Oh yes, we are going to have some fun and what would be a better way than playing some games! Can’t tell you now what are they but you shall know soon enough.

4) Next Top Models
The theme "Spring & Summer Collection 2009" is relatively simple, straight forward, and superb! So start shopping for your best dress and be a "supermodel" and our judges may pick you as the best dress person (for each male and female group) for the night and prizes to be given away too.

5) Q&A Session
This “Santa Claus” would simply know which “little children” is good in talking, those who would want to talk but don’t have the chance to do so and those that don’t talk much. Not to worry because “Santa Claus” is coming to town and he is going to ask you some simple questions and all you needed to do is to answer the question… as easy as learning ABC.

6) “I’m hungry…”
Of course, there will be something to fill our tummy and you're going to love it! If you want to know, well… you just got to come and find out what our International Buffet banquet have prepared for us.

The Installation Night will be held on Saturday, 20th June 2009. The venue is at Armada hotel, Petaling Jaya in Nakhoda 1 & 2 (Level 3). The time is from 6.30pm to 11.00pm.

The ticket price is selling at RM 70.00 per person per ticket.

So please marked your calendar and make a date with us! Ask your friends and family to buy the tickets from yours truly and we shall have a lot of fun – which you don’t want to miss it for the whole world!

Thank you.

Yours faithfully,

TME Report: “FOREVER GRATEFUL”

“FOREVER GRATEFUL”

Thank you to all the participants who attended the meeting on 7 May 2009. I am grateful for the good response from our members to take up the role when I approach them. Even though some were not able to take up the role but their encouraging word also made me feel touched and motivated.

Our meeting started at 7.40pm and our stand in ASA Jatson led us to kick off the meeting. We have 4 guests to visit our meeting yesterday which is relatively low compare to previous meeting.
Our invocator was Jack Leong had shared with us his perseverance experiences in military service.

I want to congratulate our Table Topic Toast Master Chai Wen Lee for successfully led the table topic section. She had selected an appropriate question in line with the meeting theme. She was able to get 6 speakers to attempt the impromptu speech. The table topic speakers are: Lynn, Siva, Sheen Yee, Gary Chin (Guest), Marcus Loi and Adul (guest). Congratulation to all table topic speakers!! To stand up and speak up itself indeed is a great achievement.

Our Table Topic evaluator is non other than our long missing past president, Allen Kam. He was very encouraging and also critical in his evaluation to all the speakers. He was tried to be humor but seems not responded well. I hope we can see his presence more often.

As regard to our assignment speakers, we have Mei Lee attempts on CC Manual Project #2 and Steven Lai attempts on CC Manual Project #4, Jessy Chahal delivered Advance manual, Specialty Speech Project #5 and Johnson Yike derived Advance manual of Public Relations Project #5. All the topics delivered are very interesting. I enjoyed their speech and also learn a lot of things from their speech.

General evaluator Dennis Wee and his evaluator team members had given a very encouraging and insightful feedback to the speeches done by the speakers.

Other role players, Language Evaluator, Henry Fu, Ah Counter Marcus Loi and Timer Sze Ling also play their role smartly during the meeting.

Overall the meeting was smooth except the meeting was ended late at around 10.30pm. I think it is my oversight as TME for not starting the meeting on time and also did not brief about the time and our practice to our general evaluator before the meeting start. In the future, if there is a guest comes to assume any role play in our club, TME should explain the timing and our club practice.

Thank you

LeAnn Tang's Workshop

Dear members,

Greetings and happy afternoon to you.

D’Utama Toastmasters Club have once again invited DTM, LeAnn Tang to conducted another workshop on “Persuade with Power and Inspire the Audience”.

The workshop is on Wednesday, 13th May, 2009. The venue is at KDU College, Petaling Jaya at room 1.08. The workshop will begin from 7.30pm to 10.00pm.

Please note that because it is D’Utama non-regular meeting, hence we would deeply appreciate that D'Utama Toastmasters members and friends would buy the tickets from D’Utama Club Exco or yours truly; earliest and soonest as possible. Because whenever we cater for food – for refreshment break, it will not be under- or oversupply. The ticket sale is sold at RM 15.00 per person.

For members have yet to attempt and present the last two assignment projects from the basic Competent Communication manual, then this is the golden opportunity to understand and to know the real objectives of the assignment.

Whereas for members have “graduated” from it, perhaps you may consider it as a refreshment course and maybe you would want to re-do the assignment for better improvement and better presentation.

Please do not hesitate to call D’Utama Club Exco and/or yours truly for the ticket (limited seats available while stock lasts).

Thank you.
