Speech Evaluation Contest for the term 2009/2010

Dear fellow toastmasters,

We had a great laugh yesterday at the Humorous Speech Contest.

We had 6 competent and enthusiastic contestants and all I can say about them is that they are fantastic entertaining speakers (see attachment).

The unusual dim light at the audience area created the highlight for the contestants making them outstanding, outspeaking and "out there to win the loudest laugh".

If you missed out the opportunity, don't worry.

We will be having our Club Evaluation Contest on August 6, 2009 (next Thursday) at 8.00 pm. Refreshment will be served from 7 pm onwards.

Briefing for contestants and role players will start at 7.30 pm sharp.

In the meantime, we are still looking for role players and registration for contestants will be closed once we have 16 people.

If you would like to be part of this exciting upcoming contest, you can contact
Contest Chair: Steven Lai @ lai_steven@hotmail.com, or

Regular Meeting (#2) – 16 July 2009, Thursday

Theme : “Speaking Your Way To Magical Transformation”

Word of the Day : Splendid

TME : Immediate Past President Calvin Lim, ACS

According to club tradition, the Outgoing President will usually chair the first meeting of the following term. As IPP Calvin Lim couldn’t make it as the TME for the previous meeting due to work assignment, he took up the TME role last Thursday as replacement. A total of 32 people attended the meeting – 19 members and 13 guests.

The dedicated role players for last Thursday’s meeting were – Viswam (ASA1), Steven Lai (ASA2), Nancy Liew, ACB, ALB (LE), Steven Lai (Ah Counter), Teong Hock, ACB, CL (Time Keeper), Viswam (Invocation Speaker), Jared Chew (TTM), Jason Tan (TTE), Marcus Loi, CC (Humour Master), Wei Seong, ACG, CL (GE) and his team of evaluators – Bing Yee (ATMB), Jack Leong (CTM, CL) and Jatson Ho. Kudos to all of you for the splendid job!!

Three speakers presented their assignment speeches last Thursday. We had four speakers initially but Belinda and Joanne couldn’t make it to the meeting due to unavoidable circumstances. Patrick Khoo was kind enough to be the replacement speaker that day. Many thanks Patrick!!!

Sze Ling presented her third CC speech entitled “Stuck in Cairo Airport!”, Ginger Koh a.k.a. Karine and Patrick Khoo delivered their fifth CC speeches. Ginger’s speech was “Underwater Odyssey” while Patrick talked about “WWR – White River Rafting”. All three of them spoke splendidly that everyone was listening so attentively to their speeches. I was one of them. It must be extremely tough for the audience to vote for the best speaker last Thursday. All the three speakers were equally splendid.

The best speakers last Thursday were:

Best Table Topic Speaker : G Siva, DTM

Best Assignment Speaker : Patrick Khoo (Presented 5 speeches, won 5 Best Speaker awards!!! Fuyoohhhh!!!!!! )

Best Speech Evaluator : Lim Bing Yee, ATMB

It was undeniably a splendid meeting last Thursday. IPP Calvin did a great job for making the meeting so lively and energetic. I hope all of you enjoyed the meeting as much as I did. At the end the meeting, Division W Governor, DTM Fong Wai presented our club with “Division Governor’s Home Club” Ribbon from Toastmasters International. Another ribbon for our club banner!!! Woohoooooo!!!! Thank you DTM Fong Wai!!!!!!

See you all at the following meeting – Humourous Speech Contest on 30 July 2009. The Contest Chair is our VPPR, Joanne Tham. Registration is still open. Kindly contact Joanne or Marcus if you’re interested to take part in the contest.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend folks!!!

What Chun Ming says - Term 2009/10 Regular Meeting (#1) - 2 July 2009

Regular Meeting (#1) – 2 July 2009, Thursday

Theme : “What our mind can conceive, we can achieve”
TME : Past President Gan Teong Hock, ACB, CL

Kudos to Past President Gan Teong Hock, ACB, CL for hosting such a great meeting yesterday!! Room 1.08 was so full yesterday. A total of 38 people attended the meeting – 26 members and 12 guests. It has been a while since we last had so many people attending the meeting. It was good to see so many old friends like Belinda, K B Lim, Patrick and his wife Lynn, Chee Yoong, Henry, etc coming back yesterday. It was certainly an encouraging start for the new term.

The meeting will certainly not be possible without the help from the dedicated role players – Levin (ASA1), Viswam (ASA2), Sze Ling (LE), Joanne Tham (Ah Counter), Jason (Time Keeper), Siva, DTM (Invocation Speaker), Chee Yoong (TTM), Marcus, CC (TTE), Sheen Yee, CC (Humour Master), Henry, ACB, CL (GE) and his team of evaluators – Wen Lee, Kooi Ching (CC), Nancy (ACB, ALB), Jack (CTM, CL) and Allen (ACS, CL). My sincere thanks to all of you!!

I would also like to congratulate all the assignment speakers yesterday for the great speeches – Gary (CC#2), Mei Lee (CC#4), Steven (CC#5), Johnson (AC#5). Gary and Mei Lee have made so much progress in their speeches. They are now speaking with more confidence, and without notes!! I’m impressed!!! Gary talked about "Adding Power In Your Mind" while Mei Lee's speech was entitled "A Chance At A Second Childhood". Steven talked about massage therapy but he naughtily named his speech “Lie down and relax”!!! He was so humourous that some nearly rolled on the floor listening to his funny speech. Past Area B4 Governor Johnson, ACG, ALB delivered his 40th speech yesterday - Food for Thought. He finally got his well-deserved ACG. Phewwww!!!

I’m proud to announce that we have so far achieved 2 DCP points this term – 1 AC from Jessy and another 1 AC from Johnson. Johnson will be completing his ACS soon and will be contributing another 2 DCP points for CLs to the club. Heartiest congratulations to both Jessy and Johnson!!!

The role of honour yesterday:

Best Table Topic Speaker : Joanna (Guest)
Best Assignment Speaker : Steven Lai (Presented 5 speeches, won 4 Best Speaker awards!!! =P )
Best Speech Evaluator : Allen Kam, ACS, CL

I sincerely apologise about the minor hiccup yesterday – the refreshment break. Our caterer came late yesterday. SAA David will talk to the caterer and will ask him not to repeat the mistake again in future. Our apologies. Minus that, I thing it was a great meeting yesterday. Hope you all enjoyed the meeting as much as I did.

See you all at the following meeting on 16 July 2009. The meeting will be hosted by our Immediate Past President - Calvin Lim, ACS and the GE is none other than our Godfather - Lee Wei Seong, ACG, CL.

Have a great weekend folks!!!
