D’Utama Toastmasters Club held its highly acclaimed Speechcraft programme on 27 & 28 March 2010 at Crystal Crown Hotel, Petaling Jaya. With the deft organizing and delegation skills of Chief Coordinator, Calvin Lim, places on this programme was sold out long before the date the Speechcraft was due to be held. Jonathan Moh was one of the Speechcraft facilitators and he has this to say :

The atmosphere underwent a significant change within those 2 days. When we first started the programme, there was an air of uncertainty within some of the members as it was the first time for them to speak in front of a crowd of people. However, as they found the courage within themselves to speak up, the atmosphere changed from one of uncertainty and tension to one of confidence and firm determination. With the guidance of the mentors and the presenters, they learnt to focus and organize their points. They also learnt how to carry themselves in front of a crowd of people and feedback was given to refine their presentations. When the programme reached its end, they believed it was a great learning experience for them.

All 16 participants said they would recommend this programme to their friends. They had enjoyed listening to all of the speakers particularly Siva, Johnson and Sze Ling. Furthermore, all of them were satisfied with the evaluators as they encouraged them and gave them specific points of improvement for their speeches. To top it off, they too were impressed that some of the mentors like Wei Seong made themselves available during the break time to provide more advice on public speaking. All in all, it was a great effort for all parties as they gained something valuable to take home.

The Speechcraft Programme was a success and the club members were satisfied that they helped 16 individuals to improve their communicative skills. I believe when we build someone up, we build ourselves up in return. Therefore, I am thankful for this opportunity to help make this programme a success.
