District 51 23rd Toastmasters Annual Conference

When I registered for the District 51 23rd Toastmasters Annual Conference, I wasn’t expecting much. This was my 3rd Annual Convention and there would be some hits and misses. This time, the District 51 23rd Toastmasters Annual Conference was held at the Royale Bintang in Seremban, not exactly an exciting and exotic location so I definitely was not expecting to be wowed. But this convention surpassed many of my expectations. It was well-executed from beginning to end. When I first arrived on 29th April 2016 at the Royale Bintang with other D’Utama Toastmasters Club members, we encountered a smooth and speedy registration. Our pre-printed name tags and lanyards were ready, and on the inside of our name tags, we were given the entire 3-day programme schedule for our easy reference. A variety of workshops were organized to cater to differing tastes. Toastmasters could choose from attending the educational sessions on either speaking or leadership, depending on what you were interested in learning more about.

Kudos to the Organising Team for the District 51 23rd Toastmasters Annual Conference for a job well-done! It was fun, fun, fun!! Below I have written for what I feel are the top highlights of the conference.

Top 5 Highlights of the District 51 23rd Toastmasters Annual Conference Our Immediate Past President, Henry Fu. ACB. ALB was elected as the Incoming Division D Director, at the District Council Meeting on 29th April 2016. He will assume office for the upcoming term of 2016/2017.

D’Utama Toastmasters Club received the President’s Distinguished Club award for having achieved 9 out of 10 points for this term, at the time of submission. We still of course have until 30th June 2016 to achieve the full 10 out of 10 points, which our club has been doing for more than 10 years consecutively. Our club members accompanied our Club President, Jack Ng, CC to go up on stage and receive the award in recognition of his leadership in steering the club towards the achievement.

District International Speech & Table Topics Contest The District Contest is a platform for contestants representing their respective divisions and showcases the best of each division. It was an absolute delight to witness the speakers delivering their very best and a great learning experience for all Toastmasters. Networking with other Toastmasters The Conference was the perfect place to touch base with Toastmasters from other clubs! I do attend meetings of other clubs and manage to meet new acquaintances there but this Conference gave us more time to catch up with each other!

Welcome Night & the Gala Dinner Who doesn’t love a bit of dressing up? There was Welcome Night on 29th April 2016 where we came dressed in neon and the roaring 20’s-themed Gala Dinner! The perfect excuse to take countless photographs!!!! Of course there were some of us who sneaked out in between the Conference programmes to sample the finest of Seremban’s gastronomical offerings!!! You know who you are!!!
