D'Utama TMC Meeting - 1st March 2012 (Write-Up)

(distributed via email)

It was a rainy evening but that did not stop D’Utama Toastmasters members from having a successful meeting on the 1st of March. The Toastmaster of the Evening (TME) was Lee Wei Seong. Teoh Chun Ming called for the meeting at 7:35pm, and both members and guests were continuously coming in throughout the 1st part of the meeting. As usual, we started the meeting with the singing of our national anthem and then continue with the guest introductions. Among the guests from various backgrounds, we have Lang, who’s a high school English teacher and Chung, who is a hairstylist that wanted to be a fashion advisor. We have a total of 37 members and guests attended the meeting. This was one of the most crowd I’ve experienced.

Wei Seong, started with the introduction of the theme of the evening and gracefully thanked those who made it to the meeting despite the rain and traffic. The word of the day, “Meticulous”, were introduced by Kelly Ang. Nancy Liew then quickly started the mini-workshop by presenting and explaining to us the importance of Toastmasters, and the Communication and Leadership tracks. It helped us to understand more on how being a Toastmaster and its program could help us to achieve our goals. Marcus Loi was the Humor Master for the night. He shared his customer service experience with us and it was a good 3 minutes of humor to allow us to loosen up.

We then headed off for a break. We had delicious Nasi Briyani, Rendang Chicken and tropical fruits. It was a time for members and guests get to know each other better.

The meeting resumed after 18 minutes. Diana Khoo started off with her Ice Breaker speech by briefing us on her background and her family. VK was the 2nd assignment speaker, and he definitely did show us the real meaning of brotherhood. It was his 3rd speech in the club. Chai Wen Lee was up next after VK, she shared with us on how she greatly appreciated Lee Wee Siong in helping her personal growth in Toastmaster. The last assignment speaker was Yip Wah Pung. Yip Wah Pung has joined Toastmaster for a long time, and he was really humorous when he told the members and guests on how strict the TM was in the olden days and how some of the speakers need to re-do their speeches (even the President himself) just because they didn’t inspire the audience.

After we have all the evaluators provided the feedbacks to the assignment speakers, it was time to give out the awards. The Assignment Speaker of the night award went to VK Choong and the Evaluator of the night award went to Hoo Sze Ling. As part of the D’Utama Toastmasters Club traditional, Diana Khoo received her First Speech award.

The meeting ended with a great closing by Acting President, Jonathan Moh.
